Education Policy
Many kids started back to school this week, including students at Rolesville High. Terry Stoops, Director of Education Studies, wrote about their new $75 million school building and other school building projects across the state in his weekly newsletter. He also blogged about school funding more generally, NCAE protests, NC graduation rates, and teacher turnover, among other things.
Environmental Policy
Roy Cordato, Vice President for Research and resident scholar, wrote in his weekly newsletter about the subsidies for renewable energy and the misleading ways in which those subsidies are calculated and reported. On the Locker Room blog, he wrote about environmentalists, property rights, and government force.
Regulatory Policy
Jon Sanders, Director of Regulatory Policy Studies, used his newsletter to describe what’s really causing the problems for fast food workers that led to this week’s strike – Obamacare, not evil employers. He also blogged about Miley Cyrus and NC film incentives, responded to an N&O editorial on regulation, and added to the "You might be a ‘progressive’ if…" series.
Health Care Policy
Katherine Restrepo, Health and Human Services Policy Analyst, continued her countdown to Obamacare implementation. It’s now just a month away.
Fiscal Policy
Finally, Sarah Curry, Director of Fiscal Policy Studies, used the upcoming Labor Day holiday as an occasion to look at an important labor issue – workers’ compensation. She also blogged about sequestration and federal budget uncertainty and the impact of changes in legislation on employment in the medical field.
There is a lot more on the John Locke Foundation’s Locker Room blog.
