Alamance County Sheriff Terry Johnson says he will sign a new memorandum of agreement with the feds that will allow the 287(g) program to continue at the county jail despite an ICE prohibition against the use of Tasers.

Johnson pointed out that the Taser rule won’t apply to inmates who are arrested and held in the county jail under state charges. I wonder why ICE and Homeland Security hadn’t thought of that.

I would think this would clear the way for Guilford County to stick with its modified version of 287(g), considering the fact that Sheriff B.J. Barnes says the program will be “self-initiated” by people who commit crimes.
