Williams, that is, in a new PPP poll suggesting possible Democratic challengers to Richard Burr in next year’s Senate race.
While Williams would lose in this hypothetical contest 46-34, Tom Jensen notes
68% of Duke fans have a favorable opinion of Williams with 15%
unfavorable. Among State fans it’s 60% favorable and 11% unfavorable.
Among Wake Forest fans the spread is 59/12.
And then suggests
Maybe Roy Williams is just such a quality guy he transcends school
loyalties- or there might just not be as much hate out there as you
might expect.
While this Carolina alum also thinks Roy’s a top-notch guy, I’ll offer an alternative explanation: Maybe Duke and State fans, asked whether they’d vote for Williams in a Senate race, are more forward-looking. If Roy runs against Burr, Williams would have to resign. Carolina would have to find a new coach.
Hence the obvious cheer for State and Duke fans: Run, Roy, run!
