Tryon Town Commissioners Wim Woody and Roy Miller called a vote to rescind a 2.5% tax increase. The increase was initially approved during a special meeting from which Woody was absent. The rescinding failed, of course. Woody and Miller considered it wiser to dip into the fund balance. Said Miller,

Commissioners Doug Arbogast and George Baker and Mayor Alan Peoples disagreed. Said Baker,

Taking it out of savings is the best way to go broke.
