The Town of Kernersville and former police chief Ken Gamble are being sued by a Forsth County man over injuries he sustained during a bizarre police stop along Business Interstate 40:

The incident occurred at 6 a.m. on July 15, 2012, when two men, Sides and Brian Pegram, then 29, were in a car driven by Jennifer Hutchins. A Kernersville police officer stopped the car because it was traveling 15 mph in a 60-mph zone on Business 40 East, about a half-mile west of the Main Street exit in Kernersville, authorities have said.

Sides and Pegram got out of the car, and then Sides and Pegram ran away, Kernersville police said, Hutchins told the officer that Pegram had assaulted her and that Sides had threatened her because she refused to take them where they wanted to go, police said. Hutchins had minor injuries and was treated at Kernersville Medical Center.

Officers chased Pegram and Sides a short distance before catching them and bringing them back to the scene and handcuffing them. Gamble, who also responded to the call, was driving north on South Main Street and went the wrong way on the exit ramp to get to where the other patrol cars were.

He was driving 20 to 25 mph when his car hit Sides and the other man, authorities said.

Gamble resigned in March, citing differences with town officials. He pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor traffic offense and paid $238 in fines. Will be interesting to see where this case goes.
