Robert Kagan yesterday put forth the most succinct case against China and Russia
as liberalizing powers that I have yet seen in a major publication. His
unsurprising conclusion is that the two countries will continue to work
against freedom in Northeast Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and
South America. In case you hadn’t noticed this tendency in the Iraq
invasion run-up, the North Korea and Iran nuke talks, or China’s global “friendship” ties, consider it while we bask in the glow of Hu’s trip to Seattle and the coming G8 Summit in St. Petersburg.
