Guilford County Schools chief operations officer (unposted N&R story) resigns, apparently with nowhere to go:

Kevin Lear said Tuesday that he has no plans after leaving the district June 30. He would not comment on why he is quitting after such a short time. He arrived in November 2005.

He plans to return to his home state of Alabama. In January, he lost a bid for a county administrator post there.

“I will go back there and look around and see what happens,” Lear said.

Perhaps Superintendent Terry Grier and the school board weren’t happy with Lear’s ability to deal with the system’s many construction issues and he was offered the “opportunity” to resign. Or maybe Lear just wanted to get the hell away from GCS. Personally, I’m leaning toward the second scenario, but I’m a bit cynical.
