One way to promote the kind of development government wants to see is to hire a special speaker for city council’s retreat, who for only $1200 can tell civic leaders such pithy truisms as “start where your are,” and “learn about best management practices” to “come up with a plan” while finding opportunities to stimulate community buy-in. This is a bunch of hooey, and I have long advocated the 30-day workweek so people could go home and do something useful rather than vibrating synergies with charismatic motivational speakers.
