Along with $2 million for the Rowan County Airport and $1 million for the widening of I-85 in Concord, $400,000 will go toward Statesville Avenue “corridor housing revitalization in Charlotte and $300,000 will go toward the “revitalization of downtown Rocky Mount.” But the big winner — you guessed it —- was $18 million for the Charlotte’ Northeast rail line extension.
Dole had announced in July that transit systems in Greensboro and High Point were also awarded a $2.8 million U.S. Transportation Department grant.
