Houses in Guilford County are getting bigger:
You see them in Summerfield and Oak Ridge and Browns Summit and along the Alamance County line, rising out of the Piedmont’s red dirt like little castles.
They’re the big-screen version of the American dream of homeownership, local evidence of the national trend toward ever-larger homes.
The percentage of residences with four or more bedrooms in Guilford County has been rising steadily, now making up about a quarter of all owner-occupied homes, according to c ensus data. That’s up from about a fifth in 1990.
So why are we building bigger? Because we can, real estate professionals say.
With this in mind, you really have to wonder: Is the country really heading in the wrong direction?
