Creative Loafing editor Mark Kemp is moving on. I was rooting for Mark, who was a real music nut, to make CL a long-term stop. But I think the tension between developing quality local voices, featuring real investigative, ground-breaking stuff (as represented by the stellar work of Tara Servatius), and paying homage to an oddly hostile, left-wing alt-media legacy presented Mark with a rough path to navigate.

Hope he lands in a good place and CL finds a new, fearless leader. Lord knows Charlotte needs all the honest help it can get. But, hey, we’re still in great shape alt-media wise. I mean, does anyone remember when Knight Ridder tried to kill CL off with Break? Now Charlotte has tons of print outlets. Kill one and 10 might shoot up.
