For starters, note the laughable glitches that delayed yesterday’s review of the six candidates for Guilford County manager:
Nine commissioners assembled in a closed session in the Old Courthouse to review videos of six applicants, but stopped short after they discovered one candidate did not have a video. Board of Commissioners Chairman Skip Alston wanted to cut the list to three for personal interviews. Commissioners will meet again next week to review the same six candidates, Alston said.
“We also had a video of someone who was not one of the six applicants,” said the Greensboro Democrat. “We don’t know how that happened yet. We had to stop. We want to be sure the resumes and the videos line up together.”
But also note who was sitting in on the review with commissioners: None other than Greensboro Partnership president Pat Danahy and attorney Steve Bowden. Action Greensboro is a member of the Greensboro Partnership, and Bowden is co-chair of the Simkins PAC. Their presence at the closed session further highlights the political activities of so-called economic development organizations, not to mention Alston’s relationship with the Simkins PAC. This needs to be watched very carefully as the commission chairman continues to make over county government.
Thank you, Keith Brown.
