Let’s see, the new lottery director Tom Shaheen gets $250,000 plus a bonus of $50,000 if he gets the games rolling within 4 months. If we look at this incentive to quickly start the games in light of the continued ethical problems associated with them — which may or may not include the unconstitutional voting process to approve the lottery — I can’t help but see an analogy.

Is this not similar to the frantic quarterback that rushes his team to the line of scrimmage, eager to snap the ball after a questionable play ruled complete? We all know he’s trying to get a play, any play, before the opposing coach gets the OK from above to throw the red flag to challenge the ruling on the field.

Often times, at least on the football field, a rushed play either fails to get off, as the red flag is honored and the play is overruled, or it’s botched, and the team loses the ball anyway.

This doesn’t bode well for the lottery, even if no one throws the red flag.
