….from Tom Lanno of Blowing Rock in today’s Journal, regarding Rep. Virginia Foxx’s recent visit to Winston-Salem:

The city of Winston-Salem recently asked Rep. Virginia Foxx for help in obtaining federal funds for road improvements and technology upgrades for its police department (“Foxx asked to help city with request,” March 28). Foxx refused to help secure such earmarks, maintaining that “the system for earmarks is broken.”

Perhaps the system “broke” when Foxx sneaked into a transportation bill a $500,000 earmark for the infamous teapot museum in Sparta, which was nationally ridiculed by Sen. John McCain, no less.

Foxx, as our representative, needs to know the difference between wasteful federal spending and legitimate requests for federal assistance. It seems she cannot differentiate between the two; Foxx is throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

Foxx’s refusal to help her constituents in Winston-Salem obtain important funding only reinforces the notion that she needs to be replaced with a representative who can act on behalf of our needs.
