Apparently not when Bill Clinton aggressively confronts an Obama supporter at a rally. Here’s the Obama heckler, Robert Holeman, giving his version of events:
“I think he even hit me in the face with his hand,†he said. “He did give me a little pop. It was okay, because I understand his tenacity for his wife.†Clinton did engage Holeman for a few minutes, at times pointing directly at him. It was unclear whether he did make physical contact, however.
This is from MSNBC’s First Read blog. There’s no mention in the post of the race of the heckler. But imagine if John McCain had given a black heckler “a little pop” during a confrontation. Does any sentient being think that would not have been in the lede and in the headline?
Holeman’s race did not become apparent to all until a video of the man showed up on “The Morning Joe.”
