Most educated people could care less about the federal deficit. But supposing anybody did, it could be wiped out in one year if municipalities would just drop their legislative agendas. Asheville, for example, is going to try to lobby for about $15 million of their “fair share” of pork. Included in the effort is $4-6 million for upgrades to the W. C. Reid Community Center – as opposed to the Poor Man’s Supper fundraiser Leicester is holding for upgrading its community center. Funds are also requested to help the city with energy-saving retrofits. Part of the program is “a holistic social marketing campaign to encourage [city] employee behavior change.” Read it and weep.
