From the Charlotte Observer:

Construction to widen Independence Boulevard has stopped because the lead contractor has not returned to work, according to the N.C. Department of Transportation.

Michigan-based DeVere, which has a Raleigh office, stopped work last week on four N.C. DOT projects across the state, including the most recent freeway conversion project on Independence Boulevard, said Jordan-Ashley Baker, a spokeswoman for N.C. DOT.

Charlotte’s Independence Boulevard, which is also US 74, is among the state’s busiest non-interstate highways. I would very be interested to hear what’s behind DeVere’s decision to apparently abandon roadwork in the state.
