Cato Institute’s Sallie James notes in this post that Iowa’s rock-solid statist, Senator Tom Harkin, offers the view that it’s a mark of success that the number of people receiving Food Stamps has reached record levels under the Obama administration.

Perhaps Harkin would like a country in which the federal government gave everyone the food they needed, gave them housing, gave them clothes, provided for their transportation needs, entertainment, and so on. I’d bet that he wouldn’t oppose a proposal for, let us say, Clothing Stamps.
