The Macon County Commissioners did some math and concluded, as bankrupt local governments didn’t, that they ought not bleed themselves to a sad end with unfunded liabilities in the form of retirement benefits. They will now require 30 years of service for post-employment healthcare benefits, and those benefits will not extend to spouses of retirees.

“You can’t spend more than you’re taking in anything,” Commission Chairman Kevin Corbin said.
