Now that’s a proper NASCAR feud. Whee-doggie!

From the top, yes, Jeremy Mayfield could be the die-hard meth head NASCAR is trying so very hard to make him out to be. And, yes, the things stepmom Lisa Mayfield says in her affidavit for NASCAR could be true. NASCAR could have had a meth-cooking, meth-snorting racecar driver for the past 10 years who went undetected until NASCAR started testing drivers for drugs. Could be.

Could be that Mayfield won five NASCAR races while high on meth. That’s essentially NASCAR’s position now with its latest filing, that Mayfield was both a chronic meth user and successful race car driver at the very highest level of the sport. Ask yourself how that could possibly be a positive position for NASCAR to take with regard to its operations and integrity, that no one in the whole world save Lisa Mayfield had a hint that a driver was zoomed out of his brain on one of the most powerful and destructive substances known to man. I can think of one thing that turns it around.

If the alternative is to admit that many drivers won dozens of races while on Adderall or other prescription amphetamines, then the one crazed, lucky meth-head might look like the better storyline.

One more time, this story is not about Mayfield’s supposed meth use. It is about Adderall use among all NASCAR drivers and crew members, at least until NASCAR stands up and declares that no other tested samples have come back positive for Adderall or other prescription amphetamines.

Bonus Duh: Someone still needs to get Aegis on record regarding false positives — possible or not?

Update: Keeps getting better. Mayfield now claims his stepmom shot and killed his dad in 2007 and has this to say about the top NASCAR honcho: “Brian France out there talking about effective drug policy, it’s kind of like Al Capone talking about effective law enforcement. And that’s the way I feel about it. The pot shouldn’t be calling the kettle black, you know what I’m saying?”

The city of Charlotte should be so proud to have gone into business with this bunch.
