Politics, particularly at the national level, has devolved to trying to convince voters during election cycles — and anyone watching any other time — that politicians are suped-up versions of themselves. It is comic book politics. Which character best represents your fantasy of yourself.
This is beyond identity-group politics as it functions at a deep psychological and emotional level. It is not a national election, it is a national projection.
