In one of the most recent outrageous examples of wasted federal tax dollars, the Air Force took about seven years to figure out that a logistics management program didn’t work. Incredibly, no one has been fired for this incompetence. Only in government – using other people’s money – would NO ONE be fired for this.  But now, the Senate Armed Services Committee is looking into this debacle. Committee leaders, Sen. Carl Levin and Sen. John McCain have fired off a letter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.

“From what we know to date, this case appears to be one of the most egregious examples of mismanagement in recent memory,” Sens. Carl Levin, D-Mich., and John McCain, R-Ariz., wrote in a Wednesdayletter to Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.

“We believe that the public and the taxpayers deserve a clear explanation for how the Air Force came to spend more than a billion dollars without receiving any significant military capability, who will be held accountable, and what steps the department is taking to ensure that this will not happen again.”

While I am no fan of sequestration, it is ludicrous to believe that the Defense Department budget can’t be touched. Where do we go to get our billion dollars back?
