I stumbled on this today:

Note the date, August 30. Clicking on the link in Larry Elder’s tweet, I was sent to this. Note the date of the poll’s release, July 25. I hadn’t heard a thing about this finding, that whites and non-whites both overwhelmingly support voter ID laws (It’s on page 5 of the poll results). I didn’t remember seeing this news reported in my News & Observer.

Checking the McClatchy-owned N&O‘s archives, I found this story from July 25:

n-o

Nowhere in this story are the numbers that show 82 percent of whites and 83 percent of non-whites support voter ID reported. The entire voting-rights portion of this McClatchy poll is downplayed. Coming as it did on the heels of the Moral Monday protests, which centered largely on the voter photo ID bill, this is just journalistic malfeasance. This is an example of editors deciding news based on their ideological position, hiding news that might hurt their political allies.

They should be ashamed of themselves, but they’re beyond that.
