Today’s news in the Duke Chronicle almost seems like a parody of the racism/sexism/homophobia obsession so prevalent in academe. To wit:
? Folks are really incensed about a fraternity party with a Mexican theme; naturally their solutions “includ[e] the formation of an Ethnic Studies program at Duke as well as an increase in both the hiring of minority faculty and the recruitment of minority students [as well as] more educational programs related to diversity, which could be included in freshmen orientation.”
? Tomorrow is the long-awaited release date of Duke’s Women’s Initiative; it entails a “You’ve Come A Long Way, Baby” news approach.
? And there was a gay pride parade, too; part of something called ‘Coming Out Week.’
Note ? I said it almost seems like a parody.
