Mayor Perkins takes a field trip:

…Perkins, City Manager Denise Turner Roth, Jason Cannon from the Greensboro Partnership, PTI Airport Executive Director Kevin Baker and Jim Ryan from the Nanoscience and Nanoengineering school made the trip, Perkins said via telephone from the airport. They met with North Carolina’s U.S. senators, Richard Burr and Kay Hagan, Tuesday and visited local congressional offices today.

They were gathering support for an “aerospace ecosystem” grant, which would provide funding to help expand or locate aerospace industry near PTI, Perkins said. They also ginned up support for a training grant at the nanotech school. Perkins said they also hit a number of administration offices, including the U.S. Department of Transportation and the West Wing of the White House, where they met with David Agnew, who does intergovernmental affairs work for the president.

Makes we wonder how many billions in federal grants Detroit secured over the years.
