I realize former Greensboro Police Chief David Wray wasn’t fired, as City Manager Mitchell Johnson reminds us here, but the situation up in Stoneville is eerily familiar:

Gary Walker Sr. and the police department parted ways for good this past week when Walker was fired from the force.

Walker, Stoneville’s former police chief turned patrol officer, was terminated Feb. 6, Chief Mike James said Monday morning. Walker was the subject of two investigations: one internal, conducted by the police department, and one criminal, conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation.

But even now that his tenure with the department is over, no one will say why Walker was investigated.

James said it was a personnel matter. Jennifer Canada, an SBI spokeswoman, said Monday the agency delivered its report to Rockingham County District Attorney Phil Berger Jr. on Dec. 19. As of late Monday, Canada had not responded to requests for information on the nature of the investigation.

Meanwhile, at Mayor Yvonne Johnson’s town hall meeting:nothing.
