Meehan met with Nifong, Gottlieb and Himan three times, April 10, April 21, May 12. Met at DSI offices in Burlington. It’s clear from his testimony that all test results were completed before any indictments came down.

Said he met with Nifong and crew for a half hour on April 10. Nifong there the whole time. Said they reviewed all data they had at that point and explained what it all meant. Talked about inferences that could be made as a result of the lacrosse players’ DNA tests and testing of the rape kit.

Did you discuss what you had found? Meehan: Yes, went through all the results with Nifong. “They were not classic results, not the best results” so you have to be careful what you conclude from them.

Looking at sample 210A, sample taken from panties of Mangum. It’s the result from a Y chromosome test, which only shows male DNA. “It tells me that there was DNA from a Y chromosome.”

Did you explain to Nifong what the significance of this was? Meehan: “I don’t think we focused along those lines.” Said they did focus on the fact that there was male DNA, but a “less than perfect profile.” Told Nifong: “Based on what we did have though we could say none of the reference players matched.”
