When a Dallas reporter asked the president why he’s so unpopular in Texas — Mr. Obama lost the state by 12 points — he got irritated. I’m willing to cut the president a break. He’s spent nearly three years getting mostly softballs and, thus, I’m sure he wasn’t expecting a simple, clear, relevant, yet probing question that gets to the heart of the president’s leftist ideology.

But Mr. Obama is as skilled politician, an eloquent talker, and a true believer in his ideology, which is why I’m surprised he missed the opportunity to tout why he thinks government knows best in everything from what you and I eat, to which industries should be winners and which should be losers, to which government-approved, cookie cutter health insurance is not only best, but required, and which Americans deserve the fruits of their labor and which don’t.

The president could have used this opportunity to argue for his philosophy, and I wish he had.

The last time the president told the country what he really believes, we had a very interesting discussion.
