I’m just not sure what’s up with parents these days. Yesterday, you had the parent of a Southeast Guilford baseball player publicly defending her son’s right to play in the state championship after he was caught illegally possessing alcohol.

Now you have this idiot, who’s threatening to sue UNCG because his son was expelled for selling marijuana in his dorm room.

That’s not the whole story, of course. The student in question is Brian Cobb, who was shot following a drug-related dispute with a couple of thugs, one of whom just happened to be Sidney Lowe II.

Here’s the beautiful part. Aside from dealing drugs and exposing fellow students to gun violence, Doug Cobb says his son’s behavior wasn’t all that bad:

In a phone interview, Doug Cobb acknowledged his son made mistakes and said Stephen Cobb would accept punishment in line with the code of conduct. Doug Cobb said the school also accused his son of endangering the lives of fellow students.

Doug Cobb disputes that, stating his son never had a weapon on campus. In fact, he said, his son tried to stop one of the two men accused of attacking him even after being shot.

As for selling marijuana, Doug Cobb said he believes that is not inherently dangerous.

“Sales are being made and trades being made constantly on university campuses,” Cobb said. “If it was such a danger, would kids like my son trade in it? No.

“That’s like blaming him for being the one who brought the gun.”

I just don’t understand people involved in illegal activities who wonder what they’ve done wrong when things, shall we say, go awry. I undertand even less parents who wonder what their kids have done wrong in such situations.
