Although Mecklenburg County is saying no to about $350K worth of new funding requests for 2010, most outside agencies will see little or no reduction in county funding. A couple Arts & Sciences Council programs — Arts Teach for one — do get whacks of 10 to 20 percent, but ASC is still getting almost $800K in grants from the county.
Most baffling is that of the $5.7m. the county plans to hand out, over $200K will go to programs that the county’s own reviews found to be low-performing.
Remember this when County Manager Harry Jones comes asking for a property tax hike.
