Yesterday I made a point to stop at Moore’s Country Store on Route 460 just east of Lynchburg. You can’t miss it. It’s the place with the tree growing through the roof.

I stopped to have a couple of their famous chili dogs. I always ask for light chili because Moore’s chili is HOT HOT HOT. Even with a light dose, you leave the store with substantial heat on the palate.

Moore’s Country Store is owned by Bill Moore, an old friend of mine from the mid-’70s. He was on the Campbell County Board of Supervisors when I covered them for a weekly newspaper. We later became (yes, it hurts to admit it) Carter delegates to the Virginia State Democratic Convention. Ah, the errors of youth.
