Yesterday’s N&R article on the Jordan Lake rules was a good primer, and we can’t have enough reminders of just how much the rules will cost Triad-area cities.
Unfortunately, the article doesn’t live up to the headline ‘Cities balk at Jordan Lake rules’ because it doesn’t quote any city offcials, just legislators and members of organizations such as TREBIC, the N.C. Conservation Network and Environment North Carolina.
Meanwhile, the Rhino’s John Hammer —- imagine this —- notes discord between the Greensboro City Council and city staff on the Jordan Lake rules:
The City Council voted to oppose the Jordan Lake Rules. It did not vote to accept seven of the rules as they stand and try to get six rules changed. It voted to oppose the rules, period, but the staff under the direction of City Manager Mitch Johnson is ignoring the wishes of the City Council. The staff under the direction of Mitch Johnson has decided that the council is wrong to oppose the Jordan Lake Rules and therefore will only oppose the most absurd of the rules.
Typical of the staff-driven local government around here, although Guilford County commissioners — at least those in the loop— are bucking that trend.
