According to the International Herald Tribune:
After decades of effort, a Senate panel has approved legislation that would give the top U.S. health agency broad regulatory authority over tobacco products, paving the way for further restrictions on advertising, tougher warning labels and lower levels of nicotine.
This can only lead to people smoking more cigarettes to get their nicotine fix than they would have otherwise. Is it any surprise that Phillip Morris supports the bill? It’ll increase sales! Not to mention tax revenues to government!
Oh, and don’t forget Golden Leaf payments!
So, the government and business win, and individual consumers lose. Why does that sound familiar?
