At last night’s meeting, Greensboro City Council member Trudy Wade agreed with fellow council member Mike Barber that the city’s $200 million bond package is a rush job.

Just as Barber did, Wade cited confusion and misinformation from city staff when trying to craft the bond package. Wade’s pet issue the $7 million for the proposed greenway, which she wanted pulled from the transportation bond so it could stand alone on the ballot. Wade said city transportation staff members Jim Westmoreland (now assistant city manager for economic development) and Adam Fischer told her initially that the greenway indeed did stand alone on the ballot.

Wade added that when a public meeting was held in her district on the transportation bond, the greenway was not included. Wade said the first she heard that the greenway was included on the bond 10 minutes before the last council vote on the bonds, and when she tried to ask Fischer when it was included, he said he didn’t know.

Again, things to think about.
