A couple of conversations with more rational minds confirms that Sen. Kay Hagan’s abrupt dismissal of staffer Fred Aikens is (yet another) legit story being ignored by the mainstream media, most notably Hagan’s hometown News & Record.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m trying to be fair to Sen. Hagan, because Aikens brought some interesting baggage with him to Washington, though it didn’t seem to get in the way during Hagan’s campaign against Elizabeth Dole. Perhaps there was a legitimate reason why NC National Guard Adjutant General William Ingram authorized hacking into Aikens’ computer while he was serving in Iraq, much in the same way a jury more or less decided that Greensboro Police Detective Scott Sanders had a legitimate reason for hacking into Officer Julius Fulmore’s HUD-issued computer. (Correct me if my logic is faulty here.) Perhaps that reason caught up to Hagan as she was still settling into Washington.
Then again, perhaps there was no legitimate reason for Ingram to hack into Aikens’ computer, that it was part of some sort of personal-professional vendetta. We just don’t know. Nor does Aikens know exactly why he was fired after just one day. Whatever the reason, such an abrupt decision on the part of Sen. Hagan only raises more questions. And, as one of my more rational minds pointed out, if she doesn’t have the guts to face a former employee with reasons for his dismissal, will she have the guts to stand up to members of her party pushing liberal agendas that run counter to her constituents’ values?
