I couldn’t justify taking time off work to attend the last meeting about Asheville’s Downtown Master Plan. At the prior meeting, it was announced that people were educating Brian Postelle from the Mountain Xpress about Business Improvement Districts. Fortunately, Brian survived the education and wrote about opposing views on the issue. I believe he dealt the beast a substantial blow with his closing summary of remarks from the Downtown DC BID Deputy Director Rich Reinhard:

[BIDs] sometimes step on toes, he notes—which is probably inevitable when an independent management entity makes decisions concerning a downtown that belongs to everyone, not just the property owners funding the BID.
