The Mountaineer, out of Waynesville, N.C. has a good article on the “Star” power of Heath Shuler. He is campaigning on Mountain Values, and there is nothing that stirs
mountain folks up when you start talking about their values: Faith,
Family, and Friends are strong up there! I know it’s hard for
some to view anything but partisanship, but I had a high school
football coach say one time:
“You know when people really have pride in their town? It’s on
Friday nights in the fall in High School football, when people that
don’t always see eye to eye on ideas come out and support you young men
(the local high school football team).”
People in both political parties even go hunting:
