Infighting over just who gets a seat on the 35 member Martin Commission tasked with building public support for another CMS bond package shows just how tough getting a concensus might be.

Huntersville Mayor Kim Phillip wants to put unsuccessful school board candidate Rhonda Lennon on the panel. Lennon, who supported November’s $427 million bond, tried to unseat District 1 bond opponent Larry Gauvreau. Now Mecklenburg County Commissioner Jim Puckett says appointing Lennon to the Martin panel would put someone who is out of step with the Huntersville area on the commission as the area’s representative.

Could be. But the larger issue is making sure the panel is not stacked with supporters of the failed bond package no matter where they call home. If it is, they will just end up back at a $427 million number and the status quo.
