After seeing RENT last Friday, which was a little disappointing, I took off for the Big Apple to actually spend time in Hell?at the Westside Theater production of C.S. Lewis’ “The Screwtape Letters.” A bit shy of Hell’s Kitchen (the district) off of Ninth Avenue at 43rd Street, Uncle Screwtape rendered a delicious account of the Tempter’s life?and the consequences for Junior Tempters who screw up the task of luring souls into eternal damnation. I hope that this production makes its way South some time, as it’s well worth the time and price. Not least, as last weekend was a record hot spell in NYC, I got a respite from the heat wave during my cool spell in Hades.
If you are there while it’s still in production, definitely try to see it.
Unfortunately Hades followed me back to Raleigh, as it’s even hotter-than-H here, for sure.
