In today?s Charlotte Observer, Kristen Blair, education writer and Mother of a 4th grader, writes an excellent opinion piece on the issues facing state testing. She writes, ? The message implicit in our test-driven curricula is this: acing the EOG is the zenith of academic mastery.?
She makes the case for the state to stop using its own testing tool, and begin to administer a national recognized achievement test.
Thousands of students this week will walk into classrooms across the state and take the state tests. Even though, these tests tell very little to parents and taxpayers regarding students? performance, since they are not diagnostic. What a waste of time, energy, and money!
Hopefully this Mom’s well written piece will get other parents’ attention to demand changes from the General Assembly. Meanwhile Senate Bill 450, which calls for national recognized achievement tests, sits in the Senate Education Committee.
