Gov. Rick Perry nailed the ?monopoly? held by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) He vetoed a bill to give stipends ONLY for NBPTS certification. Gov. Perry called it right when he calls NBPTS a ?VENDOR.? NBPTS is not the only certification program for teachers.  He mentioned the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence as another program not targeted for ?extra? money.
Since NBPTS was Governor Hunt?s baby, North Carolina has dumped millions upon millions into this ?vendor.? Year after year the effectiveness of the program continues to be questioned. It is time  taxpayers tell General Assembly Members and the Governor to stop the flow of education dollars to this specific vendor.  When local school board members start the ?lack of fund? wows, remind them of this line item in education spending that needs changing, before MORE of your money is wasted. Maybe they will be inclined to lobby for more control of your tax money coming from Raleigh, than money coming from your wallet.
