Ah, but it can never be said that George wasn’t a Working Man — in fact his grubby trade-school pedigree had the Uptown crowd holding him at arms length for most of the Hornets’ time in Charlotte. What a strange twist in the history of one of the NBA’s odder franchises.
The league is now essentially in charge of pimping Chris Paul to any new ownership group. Or as David Stern put it:
In the absence of any viable purchaser seeking to own the Hornets in New Orleans, I recommended to the NBA Board of Governors that the best way to assure stability and the adequate funding of the franchise would be for the league to step in, and complete the transaction and assume control.
