My colleague Daren Bakst recently shared with me the email below from NC PIRG, which calls on Mark Basnight to appoint representatives from advocacy groups to the global warming commission, “not just those who will argue that the problem doesn’t exist.” The question I would have is who on the commission would argue that? There are already 4 environmental groups plus sympathizers like William Schlessinger and the President of Duke Power on the commission. We should also note that PIRG is not calling for the appointment of members who have sound credentials in the areas of science and economics that are relevant to the research mission of the commissioin. Maybe this is what they fear the most.
Hi ,
In the wake of what is shaping up to be the worst hurricane season in decades, a special North Carolina commission will meet soon to decide what the state can do to help solve global warming. But to be effective, the commission needs to include advocates for reducing global warming pollution, not just those who will argue that the problem doesn’t exist.
Senate President Pro Tem Marc Basnight championed the task force in the state senate. Please take a moment to thank him for that and ask him to appoint environmental leaders to the commission. Then ask your friends to help out too by forwarding this e-mail to them…
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Ouzts
