The North Carolina Association of Educators (NCAE) is showing some bi-polar tendencies. On Tuesday, NCAE leaders celebrated a budget deal that will require a $225 million discretionary reduction by school districts. It also authorized districts to increase class size in grades 4-12.

The bizarre NCAE response prompted a little ribbing from Under the Dome’s Ben Niolet.

The state’s teacher lobby is claiming victory in the budget battle. In an e-mail message to members, the N.C. Association of Educators praised the current budget plan, which they said protected K-12 classrooms.

Uh, which budget are you reading, NCAE?

By Wednesday, the NCAE released a more subdued message.

NCAE President Sheri Strickland applauded the school districts that were exercising caution during a stressful time for school districts and educators. She offered NCAE as a resource to any school district faced with the prospect of eliminating educator positions.
