Durham DA Mike Nifong, in an AP interview printed this morning in The Herald-Sun, pretty much admitted that his prosecution of the Duke lacrosse players is being done for political reasons. How else does one interpret his comments about the “divisions” in the Durham community?:

“My personal feeling is the first step to addressing those divisions is addressing this case,” Nifong said. “That is not the kind of thing that you can really assign to somebody else and say, ‘You go do this for me. The future of Durham’s in the balance and I don’t really want to get my hands dirty. You do it.'”

Somebody please tell him that whatever divisions exist in Durham have nothing at all to do with whether three players are guilty. The sins of the past have nothing to do with a party on March 13. Only the Trinity Park pot bangers, the leftist professors at Duke, and now apparently Nifong himself, are daft enough believe they do.
