The GOP in DC is turning against NCLB, according to this story in the Washington Post. A group of 50 GOP members in the House and Senate are attempting to pass bills that would allow states to exempt themselves from most NCLB requirements. But these bills would still allow states to keep the healthy federal funding that flows from NCLB. This is similar to what the National Education Association wants to see in a reauthorized NCLB law.

Rep. Peter Hoekstra, a Republican from Michigan and leader of the revolt, said, “The president believes in empowering bureaucrats in Washington, and I believe in local and parental control.” Are you kidding, Pete? Parents have little control now and your bill won’t change that.
