Greensboro’s $26 million greenway is not on the list of federal grant winners announced by DOT Secretary Ray LaHood:

..(G)rants were awarded to projects that have a significant impact on the nation, a region or metropolitan area. The projects chosen demonstrate their ability to contribute to the long-term economic competitiveness of the nation, improve the condition of existing transportation facilities and systems, increase energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improve the safety of U.S. transportation facilities and/or enhance the quality of living and working environments of communities through increased transportation choices and connections.

Guess the greenway didn’t quite measure up to such standards, but you’d never guess that listening to boosters and the mainstream media. Action Greensboro executive director April Harris says they “will need to regroup and determine how to get the rest of the funding we need.” Needless to say the N&R’s reaction should be interesting.

Since HUD and DOT are working together on this deal, how about PART helps out and hands over its million-dollar grant?
