Guarino’s done the best job of analyzing the N.C. Senate District 27 race between former Greensboro City Council member Don Vaughn and Joe Wilson, who lost his bid for City Council in the 2007 election.
Now I note with interest that the Rhino endorses neither candidate, saying they “don’t think Wilson has the experience to represent Greensboro well in Raleigh” while “Vaughan is too liberal and has a poor record on the City Council.”
Nor could I personally support either candidate in good conscience. During his years on the City Council, I don’t remember Vaughn (correct me if I’m wrong) ever standing up to developers. Yet after he left the City Council, he began representing residents protesting controversial developments, which I couldn’t help but view as politically motivated.
And while I certainly wanted to support Wilson’s candidacy to help promote change (yes, I just used that word) on the City Council, I just wasn’t impressed with Wilson’s campaign. I kept waiting for issues that I could grab onto, but they never emerged. I can’t say I’ve seen any in this campaign, either.
With this in mind, we should be concerned with the type of representation we’ll have in the N.C. Senate.
