What do you know, another story on the Belmont neighborhood that does not mention the $750 million Northeast light rail line that is supposed to run through it.

What do we have?

Malt liquor? Check. Homeless? Check Loud music? Check. And the city of Charlotte “assembling land for private developers to rebuild blighted areas.”

Say like around future train stations?

Not a word.

There is this little nugget, however:

City officials have said they would negotiate with owners rather than take properties, as cities are allowed to for economic development purposes.

Gee, thanks boss. We are ever-so grateful. They could take it, but won’t. Now what was your price again? Kinda puts all the protest in the General Assembly that eminent domain reform is not needed in the proper perspective.

And I hate to do it, but where did we first hear about the possibility of the city using eminent domain and tax increment financing to further transit oriented development dreams?

Oh, yeah — some nut.
