If anyone is still wondering why people are saying that the alternative media (blogs, forums, the Internet) are changing things and stirring the drink, they need to read this thread on LieStoppers. LieStoppers, you may already know, is a home base for people interested (obsessed, some may say) with the Duke lacrosse case. But it does lots of other things, like instantly inform people on its Duke Hoax forum about Duke lacrosse game scores, upcoming TV shows of relevance, and, today, it beat the MSM on an important news item.

Seems some idiots have been throwing rocks at cars from the Durham Freeway overpass but the esteemed Durham Police Department did not see fit to report this to the media. Perhaps they don’t remember a few years ago when a woman was killed by a rock thrown from the Ellis Road overpass. As usual in Durham, that became a racial incident because the woman killed was black. No one bothered to ask how anyone on the overpass, in the dark, could tell the race of anyone in an oncoming car.

That the DPD and public information officer Kammie Michael, who covered the Ellis Road rock story when she was a reporter at The Herald-Sun would not think this was worth telling the public is just incredible. But that’s where LieStoppers stepped in. Read the thread and see how to get results. Oh, and thanks to Julia Lewis of WRAL for knowing a good story when she hears one and putting it on the air.
